Schengen Visa Centralization and Other Updates Announced by VFS Global

Recent adjustments to the procedure for appeals/remonstration requests and a revised cost structure for the Schengen as well as German National Visas have been made by VFS Global for its Indian Schengen visa applicants.

The centralization of the Schengen visa (short-term visa), which enables applicants in India to schedule an appointment and submit the visa application at any visa application centre administered by VFS Global throughout India, is the most significant of these new changes.

1. Schengen Visa centralization

According to a VFS Global update posted on its official website, regardless of where you live, you can now schedule appointments and submit your Schengen visa applications at any Visa Application Centre run by VFS Global in India as a result of the centralization of Schengen visa (short-term visa) processing at the German Visa Centre in Mumbai.

If the Application Centre closest to your hometown is completely booked, you can search for open appointment times in other major Indian cities.

Please keep in mind that this relaxation does not apply to applications for national visas (D-visa category), such as student visas, employment visas, or family reunion visas.

2. Modifications to the Appeals and Remonstrances Process

The VFS alerted people about the change in the procedure for appeals against visa denials in addition to the centralization of the Schengen Visa. As per the update provided by the VFS, you will no longer be able to submit appeals or remonstration requests for Schengen visa or national visa denials at VFS application centres in Mumbai as of Monday, December 5, 2022.

Please refer to this website https://travelobiz.com/germany-visa-vfs-global-issues-update-regarding-change-in-the-appeals-process/ for additional information on the process if you want to appeal or protest a national or Schengen visa denial in Mumbai.

3. Updated visa costs for Germany and Schengen visas

An increase in visa costs was announced earlier this month by the Germany Consulate general in Mumbai. The updated Schengen Visa application fee for an adult is now 6,800 INR, while the fee for a minor is 3,400 INR. A National Visa currently costs 6,600 INR for adults and 3,200 INR for minors.

Schengen visa:

The current Schengen visa application fee for an adult is 6800 INR. The cost to apply for a minor’s Schengen visa is 3400 INR.

Regarding national visas:

The current visa fee for an adult applying for a national visa is 6400 INR.The cost is 3200 INR for minors applying for a national visa. Please have the required funds available while applying for a visa from the German Consulate in Mumbai.
