Post Covid Modifications to the NCLEX RN and NCLEX PN Exams from October 1st, 2020
The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), is used by all state nursing boards to determine whether or not a nurse is ready to practice at an entry-level. There are two NCLEX examinations, the NCLEX-PN, for practical and vocational nurses, and the NCLEX-RN, for registered nurses.
Under normal circumstances, the minimum number of questions for the NCLEX-RN is 75, with a maximum of 265, and a six-hour time limit. Additionally, the NCLEX-PN exam has a minimum of 85 questions, with a maximum of 205, and a five-hour time limit.
In order to decrease the risk of infection during this Covid pandemic, it was decided to reduce the amount of time candidates spent inside the testing centres. Pearson Vue and NCSBN collaborated with local authorities and came up with an innovative plan. The consequence of that collaboration was an across the board change that affected both the RN and PN NCLEX exams. Currently, both exams have a minimum of 60 questions that each candidate must answer before any decisions are made regarding passing or failing the exam. The maximum number of questions is 130 and the time limit for the exam is four hours. These new changes come into effect from October 1st, 2020.
Here is what you can expect on Oct. 1st, 2020:
Students need to be aware that the exam will continue to utilize the Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) methodology for administration and scoring. NCLEX Test Plans remains the same and the passing standard will not change. MWT Education Consultancy wishes all test-takers the very best of luck! Climb the ladder of success with determination and hard work to achieve your dreams!
