How to Clear Genuine Temporary Entrant Visa Requirement for Australia?
by Arunachalam
As a study abroad destination, Australia boasts a well-respected education system and highly ranked educational institutions. In addition, Australia's cultural diversity helps students gain a global perspective. Of course, studying in Australia is a dream for many. To make this dream come true, you need to understand the requirements for your Australian student visa. One of these requirements is getting your GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) approved. In this blog we will discuss all that you need to understand about this important document.
What is a GTE?
GTE means Genuine Temporary Entrant. It is a means for the country to verify the genuineness of a student visa applicant and to rule out any misuse of the same for illegal migration to Australia. It is a crucial component of your student visa and is frequently referred to as an "integrity measure" or an "integrity evaluation document."
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) eligibility criteria
As an applicant, you must meet the following criteria, which fall under the GTE umbrella, in order for your application to be successful:
- The applicant's circumstances in their home country
- The applicant's potential circumstances in Australia
- What is the value of the course to the candidate’s future?
- The applicant's immigration history
How these criteria are addressed
-
The applicant's circumstances in their home country:
Applicants must provide a written statement of their reasons for wishing to study in Australia and any reasonable reasons for not studying in their home country or another region, the applicant's personal ties in their home country (i.e. family and employment ties), the applicant's economic circumstances and relatives in Australia.
-
The applicant's potential circumstances in Australia:
Applicants are required to demonstrate their knowledge of their intended program and provider, as well as the course content and level of research they have undertaken before finalising their course. When evaluating an applicant's potential circumstances, the Department of Immigration (DHA) will also take into account the applicant's ties to the Australian society and family.
-
What is the value of the course to the applicant's future?
It's important for the applicant to confirm that the course they intend to study is consistent with their previous educational background and will assist them in obtaining employment or improving their employment prospects in their home country. If the applicant is deviating from their usual career/study path, this should be fully explained in the SOP (Statement of Purpose).
-
The applicant's immigration history:
An applicant's immigration history refers to both their visa and travel history. As part of the GTE criteria, authorities will consider the outcome of previous visa applications (if any) to Australia and other countries, and whether the applicant has travelled to Australia or other nations and whether the applicant has complied with visa laws. If the primary applicant is a minor, the intentions of a parent/guardian will be assessed before a decision is made.
-
Required documents and information:
Listed below is all the information that is required to be included in your GTE's SOP, besides the supporting documents:
- Document Name Description
- Previous education - Academic transcripts showing qualifications and the name of the education provider.
- Gap explanation - Any gaps in your education and employment history should be well explained in the SOP.
- Current employment - Information about your current employer with full contact details, length of employment, position held, etc.
- Incentives to return - compelling reasons to return to your home country after completion of the programme. You should provide proof of financial, family and social ties.
- Financial circumstances - documents showing the applicant's employment/business activities, income tax returns and bank statements.
