How to Choose a Provider among the Numerous Higher Education Providers in New Zealand
New Zealand possesses a top-class education system with qualifications that are valued globally. You will surely fall in love with the unmatchable lifestyle in New Zealand with friendly and welcoming natives. With its plentiful natural beauty, picturesque coastlines and breathtaking landscapes, studying in New Zealand will surely be an adventurous experience for you.
Are you thinking of pursuing higher education in New Zealand? For overseas students, selecting an education provider in New Zealand is a significant decision. To help you with the decision, in this blog we will discuss five important aspects that you should consider while making a selection among higher education providers in New Zealand.
Which of the various schools and tertiary education providers in New Zealand would best fit you?
If you want to study in New Zealand, you can select the ideal study location using these five criteria.
1. Courses, programmes, and subjects
A wide range of courses and programmes are available to tertiary students at the certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree, and postgraduate levels.
For students who need to enhance their English before higher studies, several providers also offer gateway or foundation programs.
If you are in the school, NCEA, the primary secondary school diploma, is a flexible diploma that provides you the freedom to pursue your interests and strengths.
Find a school that provides the courses you want to take because there are more than 40 NCEA disciplines available.
In New Zealand, you are free to pursue any academic interests.
2. Location
Would you like to live in the country, a small town, or a large city?
Studying in a large metropolis like Auckland or Christchurch, a regional city like New Plymouth or Invercargill, or a small-town rural area like Northland or Southland may be your preference.
Even though there is always wildlife nearby in New Zealand, if you want to live an outdoor lifestyle, you may want to live close to rivers, mountains, beaches, or national parks.
3. Type of institution
Different tertiary institution types
Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin are also home to eight universities in New Zealand. Some of them also have campuses across the nation.
These universities together provide academic offerings ranging from bachelor’s degrees to PhDs and are among the top 3% in the world.
The New Zealand government established Te Pukenga, the NZ Institute of Skills and Technology, as a tertiary education facility. Te Pukenga is a nationwide network of 16 institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs) that offers professional and vocational training, from introductory courses to complete degree programmes. Giving you real-world experience and the abilities you’ll need for the workplace is the main focus.
Private training establishments (PTEs)
PTEs can provide you with career-specific instruction for fields like business, game design, or aviation. The majority offer diplomas and certificates, but few may have complete degree programmes.
You have the option of studying English in New Zealand at a university, ITP, or an English language school.
Types of School
You have many options to choose from:
- State schools usually referred to as public schools, follow the federal curriculum.
- State-integrated schools, that adhere to a particular philosophy or religion. The national curriculum is also taught by them.
- Private schools are exempt from implementing the national curriculum. Some schools provide the International Baccalaureate or the Cambridge Assessment International Education programmes.
You must also choose between attending a school that accepts both boys and girls (co-educational or co-ed school) and a school that only accepts boys or girls.
Regardless of the kind of school you favour, the New Zealand government has procedures in place to guarantee that you receive a top-notch education, acquire the necessary skills, and obtain certifications that are both useful and cost-effective.
Make sure you select an Education New Zealand Recognized Agency when selecting an education agent who can assist you with the application process and provide advice.
4. Living Costs
You’ll probably spend less on lodging if you stay outside of the major cities. Living close to your place of study may allow you to save money on transportation.
Through interning you can learn how to adapt to the New Zealand office culture, and how to communicate effectively with and adjust to people here.
The cost of tuition will vary depending on where you study, the course you select, and its duration.
5. Social life in New Zealand
Love singing in choirs, acting in plays, powerlifting, kayaking, or anime?
There are many clubs, organisations, and associations available through New Zealand’s higher education providers if you wish to follow your passion while you’re studying.
Sports, music, the arts, and academic disciplines are just a few of the extracurricular activities that New Zealand schools provide at lunch and after school.
